After our first auction you will have 75 years to dole out to all of your won players. This rule is in place to add some diversity to the league. By having this rule it ensures that future auctions have some decent guys. With escalating contracts you would also not want to give every player you won a 5 year deal, because in that case you would need to do some massive trading to stay under the 90 mil cap. In auctions after year one you have no restriction as to how many years you give out.
An FYI, because you are filling your entire 25 man active roster in the initial draft you should be able to use up almost all of your cap during the auction because after you assign your years you will instantly gain a good deal of cap space. Example) if you win a guy for 10 mil and assign him a 5 year contract the player will have a first year contract of 8 mil. In future years drafts be careful. You won't be signing as many big salary guys, so the cap space you gain after the draft isn't very significant. Example, in the second year you have 5 spaces to fill with only 5 mil in cap space. Let's say you go right to 90 mil. Even if you give all players 5 year deals you will only gain 1 mil in cap relief. Starting the season with only 1 mil of cap space could significantly hinder your ability to trade, and it can also limit you from making in season pickups to improve your team because even if you drop a min salary guy you pay a 100k penalty. You can obviously run your squad however you like, but just wanted to make you aware of situations that can arise.

I may have a dumb question... Say we allocate all of our 75 contract years after the auction. A couple weeks into the season one of our prospects gets promoted to our major league roster and is assigned the 5 year contract. That is still permitted even though all 75 were used up, correct?
I assume so since you mentioned that there was no restriction in future years. I just wanted to be sure.

You are correct. The 75 years only applies to the 25 guys that you get in the initial auction.

Must we use all 75 years? Or can we use less?
